Few spring into summertime joys outweigh the pleasure of enjoying the shade from beneath an old oak tree. In the center of downtown Pembroke, Ga., a small community in Bryan County not far from Savannah, this 40-ft. tall live oak with a 60-ft. canopy is known to be more than 100 years old. Years ago day laborers would stop by here for a rest after working in fields or crops. Today people enjoy it's shade along with cluse views of the town's trademark caboose and McEachan WWII Memorial.
